Do extra locks allow me to leave my bicycle for a longer period?

Updated yesterday

Does using multiple locks change the time limit for public parking?

We love to see The Collective taking security seriously, but it is important to remember that more locks do not change the clock. To keep things fair for everyone and ensure we are all doing our bit to prevent theft, we have a limit on how long a bicycle can be left in a public spot.

TL;DR No, using multiple locks does not override the abandonment time limit.

What is the Abandonment Rule?

The Abandonment Rule is a specific policy that applies regardless of your locking setup:

  • Time Limits: If a bicycle is left in a public location for more than the consecutive hours listed on your schedule (this is typically 24 hours), it is considered abandoned.

  • Impact on Coverage: Once a bicycle is considered abandoned, all theft and damage coverage is voided. This applies even if you have used several Sold Secure Gold-rated locks to secure the bicycle to an immovable object.

Why does Laka have an abandonment rule?

These limits exist because the longer a bicycle sits in public, the higher the risk of theft for the whole community. By keeping your bicycle on the move or storing it safely at home, you are helping keep the monthly contribution down for every member of The Collective.

If you need to leave your bicycle for longer than the period stated on your schedule, it must be moved to a private, secure location to remain covered by The Collective.
