Can I leave my bike locked outside on the street overnight?
Yes, you’re covered away from home as long as your bike is locked through the frame to an immovable object with a Sold Secure gold lock. However, to keep things fair for The Collective and prevent bikes from being "abandoned" in high-risk areas, there are a few conditions you need to know.
How long can I leave my bike in a public location?
While you are covered for overnight stays, we can no longer cover your bike if it is left in a public storage location for more than the consecutive hours specified on your schedule (usually 24 hours).
If you leave your bike in the same spot for longer than that, the bike is considered abandoned. At this point, The Collective can no longer shoulder that risk as it would unfairly impact everyone's monthly contribution.
What are the security requirements for heavy Cargo bikes?
If you’re riding a Cargo bike over 25kg, there is a specific requirement to keep The Collective safe when storing the bike in a public location overnight:
Use two locks: You must use two Sold Secure Gold-rated locks to secure the bike.
Secure to a fixture: At least one lock must be fastened to an immovable object.
Gold-rated security: Both locks must be Sold Secure Gold-rated.
