Does having a security camera improve my insurance coverage?

Updated yesterday

Do security cameras change my locking requirements?

While we love to see members of the Collective taking extra steps to keep their gear safe, it is important to know that a camera does not change the baseline security rules we all follow. To keep the claims of the Collective fair and predictable, the same rules apply whether there is a camera watching or not.

No, the presence of a security camera does not change or reduce your required coverage conditions.

Must I still lock my bicycle if CCTV is present?

Yes, you must. Even if you have parked your bicycle directly in front of a CCTV camera, you are not exempt from the requirement to lock your bicycle to an immovable object when it is left unattended away from home.

A camera is a recording tool, not a physical barrier. Therefore, the Collective requires a physical Sold Secure Gold-rated lock to be used at all times to prevent theft.

How can camera footage help with a claim?

While a camera does not change your coverage level, high-quality footage can be very helpful as evidence if you ever need to make a claim. If you have footage of an incident, please provide it to our claims team to help speed up the investigation.

Why does the Collective prioritise locks over cameras?

The Collective view is that our security rules are designed to prevent theft before it happens. By always using a Gold-rated lock on a solid, immovable object, you are doing the heavy lifting to protect the shared pot of the Collective. This proactive approach helps keep the monthly contribution low for everyone.
