Can I insure my child's bike for racing?
At Laka, we love seeing the next generation of riders getting stuck in. If your child is planning to test their lungs and legs at the start line, here is what you need to know to keep them protected and keep things fair for the rest of the Collective.
What are the age requirements for a Laka policy?
To take out Laka cover, the primary policyholder must be at least 18 years old. However, children living in your home permanently are fully covered while using your insured gear, provided they have your permission to use the bicycle.
How do I ensure my child is covered for race damage?
If your child is racing, you must ensure the Race Damage module is active on your Policy Schedule. This specific module ensures that the Collective can help out with repairs or replacements if there is a collision/pile-up in the peloton or a crash during a competitive event.
You can activate this by adding our Race+ Worldwide Travel add-on to your policy.
Does Laka cover professional racing?
To keep the Collective's contributions balanced, Laka does not cover Professional Racing. This is defined as any event where the participant (including a youth rider) is paid a salary or sponsorship to enter, or receives an appearance fee. Amateur youth racing is fully supported as long as the Race Damage module is enabled.
