Can I claim if my GPS or electronic device stops working?

Can I claim if my GPS or electronic device stops working?

At Laka, our goal is to get you back on the road as quickly as possible when the unexpected happens. To keep things fair for every member of the Collective, our cover is designed to protect you against sudden accidents rather than technical faults or the effects of old age.

When is my GPS or electronic device covered?

If your Laka policy includes Accidental Damage, your electronics are protected against physical mishaps. For a claim to be successful, the damage to the electronic device must be caused by a sudden, unintended, and unforeseen event - such as a crash or your bike falling over - that prevents the electronic device from performing its primary job.

What electronic issues are not covered by the Collective?

There are two main situations where Laka cannot provide cover for your GPS or electronic gear:

  • Electronic or Mechanical Failure: If the GPS unit refuses to turn on, the touchscreen stops responding, or the software crashes without an external accident occurring, this is considered a breakdown. Internal failures are not classified as accidental damage.

  • Wear and Tear: Damage that happens gradually over time through normal use - such as an e-bike battery that no longer holds a charge or a screen that has become dull - is classified as wear and tear.

Does Laka cover mechanical breakdowns? No, we don't. This is strictly excluded from all Laka coverage modules to keep the monthly contribution fair for everyone.

What should I do if my electronic device has a technical fault?

If your insured gear has stopped working due to a technical fault or internal failure, we recommend taking the following steps:

  1. Check the manufacturer warranty: Most electronics have a 12-month or 24-month warranty for internal faults.

  2. Contact the retailer: Discuss your "consumer rights" regarding product failure or "fit for purpose" laws.

  3. Check for software updates: Sometimes a "hard reset" or firmware update can fix a non-responsive GPS or electronic device.
