Crash or Accidental Damage

Updated over a week ago

From 1st June 2024, Laka's packages change from Core+Pro to Core, Complete + Add-Ons. Read more here.

Our damage covers you for damage which impedes the primary function of your bicycle or gear - caused in an accident by you or someone else. We'll also pay the labour cost for any repairs, and help you get your bike to/from the bike shop if required.

We might ask you to take your bike to a mechanic of your choice to get the damage assessed, we’ll cover the costs of course.

If your bike was damaged as part of an attempted theft, this is covered under the theft module.

For the full wording and limitations, see the policy wording which you can access by logging in and navigating to /cover

Common issues we do not cover:

  • Superficial damage, like paint scratches.

  • Damage that occurs gradually through the normal use of your insured gear, what we call “wear and tear”

  • non-EAPC compliant electric bikes

  • Note: This list is not exhaustive

If someone else was at fault

If someone else is at fault, like a driver or airline we'll ask for their details when you make a claim. You don't have to have details to make a claim, submit your claim and we'll work with you.

Some examples include:

  • You crashed at an event or on a ride and have damaged or bent your derailleur, it no longer shifts properly.

  • You damaged your carbon Seatpost while repairing your bike and cracked it.

  • An airline damaged your bike when handling it

  • Someone hit you with their car, and damaged your bike.
