Is my e-bike battery an accessory?

Updated this week

Is my e-bike battery an accessory?

The short answer is no. In the Laka collective, we treat your e-bike battery as an integral part of your bike rather than an optional add-on.

Why is the battery considered part of the bicycle?

Because a battery is essential to the functioning of an electric bicycle, Laka considers the e-bike battery a component of the bike itself, much like your motor or your frame. Categorising it this way ensures that the core of your ride is protected under your main bicycle coverage.

How do I insure my e-bike battery correctly?

To ensure you are fully protected and playing fair for the Collective, the replacement value of your e-bike battery should be included in the insured value of your bicycle on your policy.

  • Include it in the main value: By including the e-bike battery in the bicycle's total value, you ensure that if the battery is damaged or stolen, you have enough cover to replace it "as new," even if the cost exceeds the accessory limit.

  • Don't list it as an accessory: Accessories (like lights or GPS units) have a combined cover cap of £2,000.
