How do I insure custom parts or extra wheelsets?
At Laka, we know that for many in the Collective, a bike is never truly "finished." Whether you’ve upgraded your drivetrain or you have a specific set of deep-section wheels for race day, we want to make sure your pride and joy is fully protected.
How does Laka distinguish between upgrades and accessories?
To keep things fair for the Collective and ensure your claims are handled smoothly, Laka categorises your gear into two groups:
Upgrades (Integral Parts): If a part is essential to the bicycle's function (such as a saddle, drivetrain, e-bike battery, or a specific wheelset) Laka considers this an Upgrade.
Accessories: These are items that are easily removable from your frame or are not required for the bike to function, such as lights, bags, or GPS computers.
How do I value my custom parts and wheelsets?
When you are adding or updating a bicycle in your gear list, use the following steps to ensure your coverage is accurate:
For Upgrades: Include the total replacement value of all integral custom parts and extra wheelsets in the Initial Value of the bicycle on your Policy Schedule.
For Accessories: List these items separately under the Accessories section of your account. Please note that total coverage for accessories is capped at £2,000.
How do I update my policy after upgrading my bike?
If you swap out a part for something more expensive, you must update your insured value immediately. If your insured value does not reflect the true replacement cost of these custom parts, the bicycle may be underinsured. Being underinsured can proportionately reduce the amount Laka can pay out in the event of a future claim.
