Damage as a result of a theft

Check your cover level. All applies within your Geographical Limit,

You will always need to notify the police of the theft and have a Crime Reference Number when making a theft claim.

Theft from home

You’ll be covered for theft of your insured gear from your home. Your home is the address where your bicycle is usually kept as shown on your policy schedule, and is a private storage location.

Theft away from home cover

Whenever you leave your bike unattended away from your home or a private storage location you’ll need to secure your bike to an immovable object through the bike frame using a Sold Secure Gold-Rated lock.

Away from home includes both communal and public storage locations.

If you are locking your bike in a public location, it's covered for 24 hours before we consider it abandoned and you will not be covered for theft away from home.

If your storage location is communal, you need to lock your bike to an immovable object using a SoldSecure gold lock to be covered. If you are locking your bike in a communal storage location, there is no time limit.

Unlocked in transition areas of triathlons

We understand that things can get hectic during triathlons and you can't unlock your bike when every second counts. Because transition areas are usually well-guarded you won’t need to use a lock. This extends to the pits at cyclocross races too.

Read the exceptions if you are a professional.

Mugging / Bike Jacking

We hope this never happens to you…. but if it does then we’ve got your back - you’ll need to report the theft to the police and submit the crime report reference no. as part of your claim.

See our guide on mugging/bike jacking.

Damage as part of a theft attempt

If your bike is damaged in an attempted theft, you may be able to claim under your theft cover. We will need to determine if an attempted theft has taken place.

For example, if you have listed your lock on your insurance policy and it is part-way cut through, you could submit a claim to have it replaced.
