What is Laka Liability Insurance Cover?

Our Bicycle Insurance policies come with Liability Insurance bundled in, provided you meet the age limitations (see below)

Our liability insurance used to be a separate add-on, called Laka Club. From June 1st 2024, this is no longer available as a standalone product and is part of our bicycle insurance packages.

Cover

Laka’s Third-Party Liability Insurance (Formerly Laka Club) will protect you if you are responsible for causing injury or death, or damaging property whilst you’re on your bike.

If you are found to have caused death, injury or damage to someone’s property, a court can order you to pay them compensation.

The amount awarded will take into account factors such as:

  • the claimant’s medical costs;

  • the claimant’s loss of earnings; and / or

  • the cost of replacing or repairing damaged property.

A Laka Third-Party Liability Insurance policy will cover the legal costs of defending you against a claim and any compensation you are ordered to pay up to £2,000,000.

If you do not have third-party liability insurance you would still be obliged to pay any compensation awarded but you would have to fund this yourself.

Key Limitations

Age and Residency

You must be a UK resident between 18-80 years old

Racing

You won't be covered during any races in which you are competing as a professional.

We will not cover injury or damage caused to another cyclist where you both are participating in the same cycling event either organised or sanctioned by British Cycling or the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).

Cover outside the UK

You are covered for 120 consecutive days outside the UK, excluding North America. See below.

North American Restriction

Your Laka liability policy won't cover you whilst in the USA or Canada.

Your Laka liability policy won’t cover you for any settlements made within countries which operate under the laws of the USA or Canada.

This is because the cost to defend or pay a claim would be much higher under the laws of the USA or Canada which would mean that we would need to charge you much more for the cover and we want to keep our deals sweet!

You will be covered if you injure someone or damage their property in the USA or Canada and you are pursued in a court not operating under their laws.

Family Members

  • You aren’t covered for damaging the property of, or causing injury to any of your employees or members of your family who live with you.

  • Only you, the Laka member will be covered whilst using your bike.

Commercial Use

You won’t be covered whilst using your bike for any commercial purpose e.g. whilst working as a courier.
